Volunteer Opportunities to Make Friends

We’ve previously talked about the various benefits of volunteering such as building your resume or trying out a new gig. But one we haven’t covered is that volunteering is a great way to make friends. In fact, a quick google search shows that many volunteer recruitment efforts use the opportunity to make friends as a draw for new volunteers. While this might sound like a self-centered way of thinking about volunteering, I think another way to look at it is that improving the lives of others improves your own life. To me, it’s really special that helping others has the power to make your life better.

We are seeking a savvy super heroine/hero who can regularly and consistently create and search out fantastic women-oriented and geeky content to share on the SHE Instagram channel. You would attend events (SHE-sponsored and some cons) and post updates through Instagram. We would also seek your guidance on implementing photo challenges and other fun, creative ways to engage our audience. Through this opportunity, you will meet the entire Website Committee full of cool people (such as this blogger) and meet a ton of fellow Super Heroines at our local events. Since you’ll be asking to take photos of attendees, you’ll be able to strike up conversation and make connections with a wide variety of people.

Pinterest Assistant

If you’re a pinning addict, this role is for you! Super Heroines, Etc. (SHE) is seeking a volunteer agent who can take on the mantle of building our Pinterest presence. We are seeking a savvy super heroine/hero who can clean-up our current boards, create new boards, and consistently pin our own content and relevant third-party content. Through this opportunity you will meet the entire Website Committee full of cool people. When you are out and about at events, we’ll also ask you to promote the our Pinterest channel to fellow Super Heroines - giving you an instant conversation starter.

Event Volunteer

Event hosting is pretty much what it sounds like - you host events for Super Heroines, Etc. You get to plan the events, encourage people to attend, and be at the events to check people in and greet them. And not only do you get to meet hundreds of potential friends a year, you’ll also be part of a team of event volunteers that meet throughout the year.

Assistant Event Host Coordinator

This volunteer opportunity assists the Event Coordinator in planning events and working with the SHE volunteers to schedule events. While you would spend quite a bit of time sending emails to volunteers and encouraging them to list their events, you would also be planning your own events, meeting those event hosts in person for brainstorming sessions, and working with local community groups to plan bigger events. It’s a great opportunity to meet folks in SHE and the wider St. Louis community while building some serious resume power. This role requires more time than the other roles listed, which means you’ll have more time to meet new people and build connections. Since this role is a bit more intensive, it does have some requirements - great organizational skills, availability to plan and attend 2-3 events per month, speedy communication via email and text message, and strong communication and interpersonal skills. We are especially looking for someone who can step into the Event Host Coordinator role temporarily (January - March). If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please contact admin@superheroinesetc.org to find out more information!get-awesomness-in-your-inbox2
