We’re gearing up for the first Super Heroines Con (Aug. 3-9) and we’ll be spotlighting our vendors here on the SHE blog. First up is Feminist Book Club, Svaha and SewnTogetherReflections!

Feminist Book Club is the premier online hub for intersectional readers and encourages resistance through reading with a monthly subscription box, blog, podcast, and meetups. The company was founded by podcaster and gender researcher Renee M. Powers in the spring 2018 when listeners of her podcast suggested she start a book club. Renee is a proud PhDropout, having spent six years at University of Illinois at Chicago studying, teaching, and researching gender, privacy, and online communication. She earned her B.A. in Women’s Studies from Saint Mary’s College (Notre Dame, IN) and her M.A. in Communication from Northern Illinois University, where her thesis analyzed performances of post-feminism on Pinterest. Her PhD research focused on YouTube beauty communities and the commodification of feminine authenticity. In an ultimate act of self-care and self-preservation, she noped out of the program, moved to Minneapolis, and began creating a healthy, more balanced life she loves.

SewnTogetherReflections is a shop created by Briana Lawrence (Brichibi Cosplays) and Jessica Walsh (Snow Cosplays). Together, the two have created a wide range of book series and feature art that’s based on their original properties. These published works range from magical girls, to urban fantasy, to the kind of horror that creeps up your back. Their work features a cast of diverse characters all across the board as the two promote a message of inclusivity and positivity when it comes to representation!

Svaha‘s brand and product line confront gender stereotypes and empower people to embrace their passions. Our apparel features bright, bold designs with STEAM-themes, sports-themes, and non-traditional colors. Plus, our products are made from 100% organic, super-soft cotton that feels as good as it looks!

Meet Renee, Brianna, and Jessica, and Svaha reps during SHECon’s virtual happy hour from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4! To see the full con schedule and register to attend, go to https://superheroinesetc.org/events/super-heroines-con/schedule/.
