Super Heroines, Etc. is a 501c3 nonprofit focused on empowering women to embrace their inner nerd. We do that through educational events, classes, and workshops. As nerd and geek communities – like the tech field, comic conventions, and social media – are increasingly becoming hostile to women, SHE provides safe spaces for women through our mission to empower women to embrace their inner nerd.
SHE has struck a chord with women and we know this because our expanding membership has consistently told us how excited they were when they learned about us — they say they’ve finally found others with the same passion for learning, the same interests, and facing some of the same challenges.
Carolyn Noe – Founder & Executive Director
Carolyn founded Super Heroines, Etc. in October 2012 in St. Louis, Missouri. She led the group as President of the Board from 2013-2015 until moving to Cincinnati in 2016. She currently lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband, Chris, and dog, Darcy. Carolyn has a BS from Florida State University and an MA in Museum Studies from University of Missouri – St. Louis. She currently works as a Program Coordinator for the University of Cincinnati.
Carolyn’s current projects for SHE include launching the chapter in Cincinnati and managing content for the website.
Fox Smith – President
Fox Smith fell in love with Super Heroines, Etc. in 2012 after attending her very first event, a book swap at Shameless Grounds. Since then she has grown increasingly passionate about spreading the mission of SHE to geeky spaces everywhere through comic convention panels, talks, and outreach. When not waving the Super Heroines, Etc. banner, Fox works as an actress, artist, gamer, cosplayer, writer, singer, personality, fortune teller, and all around wearer of many hats from her creative fortress in St. Louis, MO.
Jennifer Gallinat – Treasurer
Jennifer has been a member of SHE since Fall of 2015 and joined the Board at the end of 2016. A St. Louis transplant, she moved down here on a lark and ten years later is pleasantly surprised to still call it home. A South City dweller, she’s a frequent patron of Hartford Coffee, Tower Grove Park, and the Stingray exhibit at the Zoo. She has a Bachelors in Biology from the University of Michigan and works for the American Culture Studies Program at Washington University. When she’s not critiquing the racist patriarchal colonialism in pop culture, she can be found napping. Or on Facebook.
Marissa Draper – Director of Events
Marissa joined Super Heroines, Etc in June 2014 in St. Louis, MO. She quickly made the commitment to become an event host and eventually joined the board as Director of Events/Event Host Coordinator. Marissa is an investment firm wonder woman by day, Super Heroines Etc. volunteer, wife, new mother, and corgi owner by night! She has a BS from Southeast Missouri State University in Secondary Education – Family and Consumer Sciences.
